Our Family's Orchard
For over a century, Borchert Orchards has been a family-owned and operated business, committed to providing the freshest fruit year-round from the Hudson Valley. Founded in 1917, when Ernest H Borchert Sr moved up from Jersey City, NJ, married Florence Greiner, a local girl from a well-established farming family, and purchased the summer home and property from his father to start a nursery/farm and raise their family. Ernest and Florence had 3 children Ernita, Ernest Jr. and Robert. As the years passed Ernest Sr would acquire neighboring farms when they would become available and Ernest Jr and Robert grew up and joined him running the farm known as E. Borchert and Sons. In 1945 they purchased a 50-acre farm located on Rte32 in New Windsor NY to increase their acreage and yields. In the early 1950's they built their first cold storage and packing facilities dug many ponds and cleared and planted many new orchards of various different fruit trees. In the early 1970's they added more cooler space and increased the size of the packing house. A previously rented 100-acre farm was purchased cleared and planted and more coolers were added in the late 1970's and early 1980's this would enable the orchard to have the ability to store and sell apples throughout the year. In the early 1980's four of Robert and Ernest Jr's sons, William, Ernest D, Kurt and Stephen Borchert, joined them in the running of the farm. The farm name was changed to Borchert Orchards Inc. as it is known as still today. The four sons continue to run the orchards today making changes to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of farming in NYS. They were joined by Kurt's son Luke in 2024 after his service in the USAF. Our small business is dedicated to our orchard's continued growth and providing our customers the highest quality produce. We are based in Marlboro, New York, and take great pride in carrying on the traditions of our ancestors. We invite you to come and experience the beauty of our orchard and the fantastic flavors of our homegrown fruit.
